Spartan Motors Names Schalter President of Spartan Chassis, Its Largest Subsidiary

CHARLOTTE, Mich., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Spartan Motors, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPAR)
today announced Richard Schalter has been appointed as president of the Company’s largest subsidiary, Spartan Motors Chassis, effective March 4.

The Charlotte, Mich.-based manufacturer of custom chassis and emergency vehicles said Schalter, a five-year veteran of the Company, will replace Spartan Motors President and Chief Operating Officer John Sztykiel, who also served as president of the chassis unit. As reported, Sztykiel will become Spartan Motors’ chief executive officer in June.

Schalter, who currently serves as chief financial officer of the Company, will retain CFO responsibilities while Spartan Motors conducts a nationwide search for his successor. Schalter will also retain the title of executive vice president of Spartan Motors, Inc. when he assumes his new post.

“Rich has made significant and varied contributions to Spartan Motors since he started here in 1996,” current chairman and CEO George Sztykiel said. “He has been one of the key players in our quest to improve operations, increase productivity and drive down production costs. His experience and leadership will be invaluable as we position Spartan Motors for continued growth in each of our core markets.”

Schalter, 48, a certified public accountant, has served as secretary, treasurer, and CFO since November 1996. Before joining Spartan, Schalter spent seven years as treasurer and director of finance and administration for Ovid, Mich.-based Great Lakes Hybrids, a subsidiary of German plant breeder and distributor KWS AG. Prior to that, he spent three years as treasurer and financial administrator for Lansing, Mich.-based Martin Systems, Inc., a worldwide supplier of electrical controls and machine operating systems.
