CHARLOTTE, Mich., Sep 12, 2011 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) —
Spartan Chassis, Inc., a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, Inc. (Nasdaq:SPAR), was recently honored as one of the government’s best suppliers by Army Brig. Gen. Darrell K. Williams, Commanding General of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Land and Maritime. The Company received recognition at the 2011 DLA Enterprise Supplier Conference and Exhibition held in Columbus, Ohio in late June, for the quality and on-time delivery of its military parts shipments.
Spartan Chassis was one of only 38 companies out of more than 6,000 suppliers to earn a Gold Medal Award, which recognizes suppliers who attain a perfect score of 100. Spartan’s score was calculated using the computerized Automated Best Value System, which collects and compiles performance data including variables such as quality of shipments and on-time delivery to the Defense Logistics Agency, and then translates that information into a numeric score, ranging from zero to 100.
“For the fourth year in a row, our Aftermarket Parts and Assemblies team has been recognized for leveraging best business practices to meet the requirements of warfighters while delivering value to America’s taxpayers,” said John Sztykiel, president and CEO of Spartan Motors. “Spartan is truly honored to supply products and services of the highest quality to the U.S. Armed Forces.”
The DLA Land and Maritime, formerly known as the Defense Supply Center Columbus, is known to more than 25,000 military and civilian customers, and teams with more than 6,000 suppliers of land and maritime weapon systems parts. More than seven million orders are processed annually and sales are approximately $5 billion per year for the DLA, headquartered at Fort Belvoir, Va.
The DLA Enterprise Supplier Conference and Exhibition, themed “Sustaining Warfighter Support While Reducing Cost,” featured speakers and panelists from the Department of Defense, military services and DLA, as well as informative breakout sessions and exhibits for more than 3,000 attendees.
